Long before Lifted Through Hope, there was a community that would bring us together and that community was called Sorority of Hope.

Nearly 20 years ago, Mel Cummings was diagnosed with Small Cell Neuorendocrine Cancer and told she might never meet another woman with the same cancer.

Then she found a message-board post from another patient named Colleen Marlett.

Although the woman who originally created the post had died, her words remained and those words created a connection.

One woman found another.

Then another.

Angela created a Facebook page.

Jess and Jen D. found the group.

Slowly, women who had once believed they were alone began finding one another.

They asked questions, shared treatment experiences, celebrated clear scans, and grieved devastating losses.

That community became Sorority of Hope.

Sorority of Hope is a yearly gathering of hope, celebration, connection, and a time to remember the women that we have lost before us. It is a chance for women to meet other women that have been diagnosed with a rare cancer that their doctor may have told them, “You may never meet another women with this same cancer.” It is truly a life changing event that is hard to explain.
